Robert D. Carroll

The day I got married, the one piece of advice my parents gave my wife was, if you want to get Rob to do something, tell him he can’t do it. For better or worse, that mentality has always been ingrained in my DNA. An almost obsessive and unrelenting stubbornness and competitiveness drove me to walk on to a Division I NCAA swim team with no competitive swimming experience, to be one of the top triathletes in the Midwest in my 20’s, to graduate suma cum laude from law school, and to win cases that no one else would even take. I am fiercely protective of my clients and develop close and long-lasting relationships with them. My clients’ problems become my problems, and I take them personally. Because of this, I do not have a “9-5” job. I dedicate myself fully to my clients. This means I am always accessible. When my client needs to talk, I am there. When I say I am going to do something, I do it. My approach to litigation is straightforward: out-work, out-smart, out-hustle and never quit. That approach has led to a very successful career, which has included several multi-million verdicts.

• Defended general partner of a $100 million real estate investment fund in action by limited partners to remove the general partner.
• Represented client in a breach of fiduciary duty claim against his former attorneys, resulting in a $1 million verdict for the client and against the attorneys.
• Represented employee against former employer for defamation, intentional inflection of emotional distress, and breach of employment agreement, resulting in a $3 million jury verdict for the employee.
• Represented trust beneficiary against a prominent national law firm for negligently representing him in claim that the trustee breached its duty in management of the trust, resulting in an award in excess of $1 million for the trust beneficiary.
• Represented business in action against former employee for soliciting clients in breach of his fiduciary duty and restrictive covenant, which resulted in a $400,000 settlement.
• Defended two executives in $20 million claim by former employer for fraud and breach of fiduciary duty.
